The Poole 'Wessex Marine' Pirates return to Teesside for the second time this week focused on matching Sunday's victory.
This time around a piece of silverware, in the guise of the MaxiCab Knockout Cup, is attached to the outcome and it is a trophy that the Poole club have held three times since becoming a Championship club, including last season as part of the treble, which they remain on course to repeat. Although team manager Neil Middleditch normally hands over his duties to his good friend Gary Havelock, silverware specialist Middlo will be in attendance this time around and will partner up with the 1992 World Champion pit side and the duo are resolute that there will be no complacency allowed to creep in, even with the Pirates holding a fourteen point lead from the first leg. "I have been involved in speedway long enough to know that you can't take anything for granted and we will be going there with the same mindset they had on Sunday when they secured their place in the Grand Final. They went into that meeting determined to win it and it will be the same missive this time. No doubt Redcar will be fired up. We have to be prepared for that but we really do have the taste for winning trophies and I would love to have another one to add to my collection by heat fifteen on Friday."
Redcar have GB International Leon Flint guesting for them on Friday in place of the long-term sidelined Erik Riss, whilst 2024 Bear Ben Trigger covers for Jody Scott who remains on mandatory concussion stand-down. Poole will be at full strength, the same septet that established the 52-38 first leg victory at Poole on Wednesday.
