POOLE PREPARING FOR PAIRS

With the Pirates ever-present play-off qualifiers for seventeen consecutive seasons, Wimborne Road have staged plenty of 'big occasion' meetings and on Wednesday 2nd September they open their doors to another Big Event, as they host the 2026 SGB Cab Direct Championship British Pairs, featuring the big names from ALL nine Championship clubs.

British number two Charles Wright will lead defending champions Redcar's assault as the Teesside club seek a fourth Pairs success in five seasons. Jason Edwards will be supporting the 2027 British Grand Prix wild card nomination in the quest for glory. 

 The league's top average rider, Josh Pickering will be partnered by one of Britain's brightest young prospects, Luke Harrison for Scunthorpe, whilst Oxford have two former Pirates in Sam Masters and Anders Rowe leading their charge, as will Plymouth in Danny King and Scott Nicholls, with the Plymouth number expected to be back racing in time after his recent injury-forced lay-off.

Poole promoter Dan Ford is understandably looking to skipper Zach Cook and number one Richard Lawson to become the club's first national Pairs winners since 2011 when Chris Holder and Darcy Ward triumphed at King's Lynn and extinguish the heartbreak when the Pirates missed out on the title at Workington last year after a controversial disqualification for Lewi Kerr in the final. Ford said

"Zach has been pretty much unbeatable around here in recent weeks, possibly all season to be fair and whilst, by his own admission Richard has seen a dip in his own form, the pair of them don't get very many last places and that is key in Pairs competitions."

Regular Poole fans will have an earlier than usual Wednesday start with tapes up at 7pm. Tickets can be purchased in advance.
