POWERFUL PIRATES HIT BANDITS FOR SIX-TY

29/07/26

Captain Zach Cook was in imperious form as he steered the Pirates to an impressive 60-30 win over the Berwick Bandits to maintain their push for the SCB Cab Direct Championship play-offs.

The convincing victory over the side that had recently knocked the Pirates out of the MAXiCab KO Cup was masterminded by Cook but each Pirate was paid for at least one win and across the fifteen heats the home side recorded just two last places.

Cook said,
'I wish every night was as good as tonight, but yeah the bike was working well and I made some decent starts. But I was also going fast as well. Everything just seemed to work for me and like I said I wish they were all like that. It was fun out there and the meetings are coming thick and fast now. The train has only just got started.'

Jye Etheridge, booed every time he appeared on track took the opening race win but it proved a false dawn for the Bandits as the Pirates hit back strong with three heat advantages - two of which were maximums - before Etheridge appeared again. In heat five he paired up with Drew Kemp for a Berwick 5-1 but from there on it was Poole all the way winning six heats in succession before Berwick could boast another race winner, that the surprise packet of Victor Palovaara who had been pointless prior to that.

The Pirates now face trips to Oxford on Friday, where they will be without William Cairns as he is riding in the SGP2 in Poland and then on Saturday its down to Plymouth, a fixture that Zach Cook will miss due to his Polish commitments.
