PIRATES EYE THIRD PLACE AS COMETS TRAVEL TO WIMBORNE ROAD

Poole have the opportunity to move up another place in the SGB Cab Direct Championship table when speedway returns to Wimborne Road for the first time in a a month on Wednesday night.

Victory over the Workington Comets would move the Pirates onto thirteen league points, following their success in Cumbria on Saturday, and they will field the same septet for this return fixture.

Looking to Wednesday's meeting, Poole promoter Dan Ford couldn't help but reflect on the manner in which the Pirates kick-started their season again at the weekend.

'Coming back from Scunthorpe and Workington with three points under our belt was impressive. Both places are tough ones to go to and to be unbeaten from this was something quite special. We now have to consolidate those results by making Wimborne Road a fortress, but as I so often remind everyone, we cannot ever be too complacent. Will [Cairns] was superb at Workington on Saturday and he followed that up on Sunday by qualifying for the British Final. He is riding in a tough position at number two for us now but that doesn't seem to have affected him in any way. He had two excellent race wins at Scunthorpe and four more at Workington, and that is not a bad record at all. But it is not about individuals. Winning titles depends on good solid contributions throughout the team and that is how we build our teams here at Poole, we look at riders that we believe have the ability and are able to unite as a team. So, we will be looking for an all-round team effort again on Wednesday and mark our return to home racing, after what seems an absolute age, with a solid performance. There are three league points on offer. We secure all three and we will certainly be breathing down the necks of the leading two sides, Glasgow and Scunthorpe.'

Scunthorpe's Luke Harrison will again guest in place of the injured Fraser Bowes whilst Workington stay with guest Mitchell Cluff as a guest replacement for Niklas Holm-Jakobsen after he suffered a coccyx injury at Redcar last Friday. 

Poole begin a run of Wednesday night action with a full calendar of home meetings following on a weekly basis - July 29th v Berwick, August 5th Edinburgh, August 12th Scunthorpe, August 19th Oxford and August 26th Plymouth.
