Whilst many eyes are expected to be on the SGB Cab Direct Championship debut of Will Cairns, Poole promoter Dan Ford is keen that the focus will be on another solid all-round team performance, as the 'Wessex Marine' Pirates have another three league points in their sights if they can secure the double over the Glasgow Tigers, as the league's current top two sides clash at Wimborne Road on Wednesday (July 2nd).
"I feel that we are beginning to get into our stride with our recent league meetings and we are in a good place currently. We can of course strengthen that further with three points on offer but we will need to pull together as a seven man unit just like we have been doing of late. Of course there is a considerable amount of interest in young Will joining us, but we must remember that, talented as he is, we will need him to settle into the new challenges and I believe here at Poole he will have the riders, and management behind him to help further his bright career."
There had been concerns over Cairns being able to make his debut after he pulled out mid-meeting whilst riding for the Leicester Foxes at King's Lynn on Wednesday night, due to neck spasms, but the 2024 British Youth Champion and world bronze medalist, who reached the qualifying age for appearing in the Championship on Sunday when he turned sixteen is keen to pull on the Poole colours on Wednesday night.
Glasgow face the long trek down from Scotland without Leon Flint who has been ruled out after crashing in Germany recently whilst their latest recruit, Dane Villads Nagel will also be missing, as the date clashes with a Danish league fixture for his Grindsted side
But they are led by the inimitable Chris Harris, a Wimborne Road points machine and also have "back from injury" Dan Thompson, both of whom link up with Kyle Howarth, who is no mean performer at Wimborne Road. It also signals a return to 2024 Pirate Max Perry, provided he has sufficiently recovered from an injury sustained in the NDL at the weekend. Former Pirates Danyon Hume and Joe Thompson will guest for the Scottish side.
Teams from:
Poole: Richard Lawson, Tobias Thomsen, Lewis Kerr, Zach Cook (C), Anders Rowe, Paul Starke, William Cairns
Glasgow: Chris Harris (c), Daynon Hume (G), Dan Thompson, Joe Thompson (Guest), Kyle Howarth, Freddy Hodder, Max Perry
