UPDATE: ANOTHER UNLUCKY BREAK FOR NEWMAN

22/06/16

Local lad Kyle Newman is facing a further potential time on the sidelines after being involved in a crash last night (Tuesday) whilst riding for his Premier league club Plymouth.

Newman was forced to withdraw from the meeting at Peterborough after crashing in heat 7 amidst fears of a broken collarbone, a diagnosis that was confirmed today at Dorset County Hospital in Dorchester after undergoing scans.

This news is  yet another frustation for the Poole draft rider who earlier this season was ruled out of racing with a serious illness that necessitated a hospital stay and he admits "I'm devastated that this has happened, it sums up my season so far. I can't seem to get any luck at all which is frustrating when all you are striving for is a run of meetings with some consistency.

"I can't remember much about the crash, it's all a bit of a blur. I knew straight away that I had done some damage and I feared that it may be a broken collarbone. I was in agony last night when we were on our way home and when the doctor confirmed the break I wasn't at all surprised.

"I know people will now be asking how long it will be before I'm back but at this stage I really don't know. The doctor said that it's a pretty clean break so hopefully I'll be back sooner rather than later, but for now there is no time scale on a return.

"I'd like to thank everyone who messaged me concerned about my health. I appreciate the support and I'll be doing my best to get back on a bike as soon as possible."

Fellow Pirate Brady Kurtz endured a difficult time in that same meeting, claiming victory in his first ride but then failed to score from four further outings suffering two retirements in those.

The Pirates will soon be back in action after a barren month of June, returning to competition on Wednesday 29th June with the visit of King's Lynn to Wimborne Road.
