PETE SWAIN R.I.P.

Poole Speedway are saddened to hear of the death of former rider from the Sixties Pete Swain, aged 84 years.

Pete was a local lad who was better known for his grass track exploits than for his efforts on the speedway track. His association with Poole Speedway began when in 1950 he took on the role of  spanner man for the Pirates first Australian signing Allan Wall.

Although primarily a grass tracker and moto cross rider he also had a go at speedway riding wherever he could get a second half booking.

He turned out for Weymouth in the Metropolitan League during the early 1960’s while also riding second half events at Exeter and Poole.

Former Poole promoters,  the Knott brothers, offered him plenty of run outs and he eventually made his first team debut for the Pirates in 1964.

Widely known and respected, he retired from speedway in the late sixties but continued to turn out on the grass and moto cross for some time after that.

Poole Speedway extend their condolences to his wife and family at thi time.
