KEN JAMES R.I.P.

14/08/15

Everyone connected with Poole Speedway will be saddened to learn of the passing of former Poole Pirate Ken James.

The younger brother of Dennis (‘Ticker’) Ken passed away on Friday at the age of 83.

An experienced grass track racer, Ken had a few second half rides at Poole in 1948 before becoming a first team regular member in the following year.

One of the few bespectacled riders ever to race for the club, he was a very stylish rider who quickly became a reliable second string.

A Wimborne Road track record holder, Ken made 34 League and National Trophy appearances for the club during 1949, before seeking a transfer and linking up with St Austell.
