PRESS DAY SNIPPETS
There is a unified feeling amongst the Poole 'Wessex Marine' Pirates that they can go one better in 2026 and secure the league, cup and BSN...
Not only did he have a £500 cheque from the Riders' Equipment Fund to celebrate but birthday boy "Magic" Janowski was hailed Rider of the Night as he produced arguably one of his finest performance in a Poole race-suit.
The new 23 year old stormed to a a five ride paid maximum including making up a 15 metre tape offence handicap in his second ride to steer the Pirates to a comprehensive 21 point victory over Wiltshire neighbours Swindon.
That big win came despite trailing to an opening 5-1 advantage for the Robins, somewhat gifted to them after skipper Darcy Ward pulled up after being shoulder barged at the first turn by Peter Kildemand.
But with Janowski in fine fettle and all the Pirates hungry for points the home side quickly recovered from that setback and stealthily built up an unassailable lead, restricting the visitors to just one opportunity of the use of the tactical.
And even when Swindon waved the black and white, Janowski was there to deal with it the best he could. He became the lone Pirate in heat 11 after fellow Pole Przemysaw Pawlicki had been disqualified for causing the first attempt to be stopped when ignition problems slowed him up right in the path of Nick Morris who couldn't avoid ramming him from behind. Shamek took a heavy fall as a consequence, but thankfully appears to have suffered no lasting damage.
As Poole's only hope Janowski produced a brilliant move to dive by Kildemand in the re-run and whilst the Robins outpointed the Pirates for only the fourth time on the night, it only trimmed the deficit back to 11 points, and with the Pirates in such fine form there was no way back for the visitors.
Even some intelligent team riding from Kildemand and Batchelor in heat 13 behind runaway leader Janowski couldn't hold out a rampant Ward and he split the Robins off the final turn.
The ever reliable Vaclav Milik assisted Newman to a heat 14 5-1 to rub salt into the Robins' wounds and then graciously in the final heat skipper Ward moved aside after leading the heat to allow Janowski the honour of taking the final chequered flag of the evening - a perfect evening for the birthday boy.
