Gary Havelock has been given a helping hand as he embarks on his farewell meeting at the end of this week.
Bournemouth Bedding Centre along with their supplier Silentnight have joined forces to provide Havvy with a top of the range, four drawer, platform bed as a prize in his special draw at Friday’s race meeting.
The bed with a retail price tag of £1,500 and includes home delivery in the UK, will top the list of raffle prizes on the night which also includes a pair of tickets to the British Speedway Grand Prix at Cardiff in July and other Havvy merchandise.
Fans will be able to purchase sponsorship certificates at the meeting and each £5 donation to the fund will qualify as one entry into the draw. The certificates were launched last month and already one lucky winner has landed a rider sponsorship on the night with a package of benefits to go with it.
“We had the idea to make a draw because people had offered to donate prizes,” Gary explains ”We thought it would be a great opportunity for people who would like to sponsor the event, but weren’t able to afford big bucks, to get involved and then one of them would get to be a bigger sponsor.
It has been really popular, and now David Smith at Bournemouh Bedding has stepped up with this grand prize, it’s just awesome! We’ve got something really worthwhile to give away on the night and I’m really grateful.
Smith is not the only person willing to pitch in and aid the retired star. An avid fan from Bradford, Havvy’s former club and in whose colours he became World Champion, has also found some treasure for Gary’s post-race memorabilia auction.
John Murphy is giving Havvy three original race jackets from the Bradford Dukes of 1997. They are all signed by members of the team and two will go under the hammer on Friday night. They include the heat leader jackets of Joe Screen and Mark Loram as well as Havvy’s own number that is to be presented to visiting rider Greg Hancock, the last rider to win a race at Odsal Stadium, home of the Dukes.
Havvy’s Farewell at Poole Speedway gets underway on Friday evening with gates opening at 6.00pm.
Confirmed Riders: Antonio Lindback, Chris Holder, Darcy Ward, Greg Hancock, Freddie Lindgren, Scott Nicholls, Maciej Janowski, Chris Harris, Bjarne Pedersen, Craig Cook, Davey Watt, Vaclav Millik, Ty Proctor, Richie Worrall.
