ROWE RETURNS
Anders Rowe makes a welcome return to the Poole fray for the 2025 season, and the Poole management are delighted to have him back on board.
Despite a previous night home defeat and facing a 12-6 deficit after just three heats in Norfolk the VOLVO CARS POOLE PIRATES turned their evening around to post another four valuable league points into their account.
Determination, aided partly by the weather and a number of home riders showing a lack of interest the Pirates even saw off a King's Lynn tactical, which yielded two extra points, before claiming a 52-40 away win.
When Chris Holder, in second place, packed up in heat 4 promoting reserve James Shanes to a paid win behind skipper Hans Andersen, the Pirates were able to close that early gap but Lynn flexed their muscles again in the fight after a second successive retirement by Krzysztof Kasprzak left Jack Holder fighting a lone cause.
With the early meeting drizzle beginning to get a little steadier, the only fall of the night came in heat 6 when leader Thomas Jorgensen spun out on the final lap, the incident resulting in both Starke, who had just passed Batchelor, and the Stars' number also hitting the deck as they tried to avoid the stricken Dane. Poole were awarded a 4-2 with Jorgensen disqualified and Batchelor injuring his wrist as he went down.
Chris Holder failed to make an appearance for his second programmed outing within the time limit, a sure sign that something was amiss but brother Jack, taking the rider replacement ride left by the overnight withdrawal of Dane Nicolai Klindt, partnered Richie Worrall to his first win in Poole colours, since replacing Brady Kurtz, as the Pirates achieved something they hadn't managed throughout the course of the previous night's encounter - to go ahead.
With Jorgensen back to winning ways after that earlier tumble Poole still clung to that narrow two point advantage before the night took a major twist.
Both Huckenbeck and Robert Lambert failed to make an appearance when called for by referee Darren Hartley who then answered an invitation to visit the pits and discuss conditions. A lengthy period of track remedial work ensued before racing, in much drier conditions as the rain relented, resumed and Andersen and Starke eased to a maximum over the Lynn reserve pairing.
Batchelor was replaced under the IRR facility in heat 10 and again the Poole boys revelled with Starke this time partnering Worrall to yet another 5-1, and put Poole ten points up.
A token gesture to try and haul Poole back was made by nominating Chris Holder as a tactical ride but Kasprzak put in his best ride since returning from injury to blast from the gate. Jack Holder did his best to try and pass his landlord before coming under pressure from reserve Lewis Rose on the final circuit but held on to share the heat at 4-4, the following race also ending all square with a conventional 3-3 score as Huckenbeck saw home Shanes and Starke.
Another two minute disqualification by Chris Holder and with no attempt to offer a replacement or handicap ride, the Stars saw the meeting go beyond them as Kasprzak and Andersen bolted in a 5-1 for a 14 point lead. Robert Lambert won heat 14 before, amidst a strange atmosphere the home side closed with a 4-2 advantage through Huckenbeck and Jorgensen, aided largely by Kasprzak's early retirement.
