Matt Ford Pays Tribute

"By now many of you will have heard that my friend, and Speedway Ambassador, Jon Cook sadly passed away yesterday, Monday 3rd May aged 55.

Just under a week ago, Jon and I had a long and interesting telephone conversation, where between us we solved the World’s social and economic problems. Jon was the absolute master of making good of dire circumstances.

As I write these words all I can think of are the many happy times we had together. His wonderful Sussex accent and how he would tower over me at 6 ft 4 inches. His never ending passion, drive and commitment to British Speedway and the new love in his life, surfing. He took great interest in what we were planning here in France and was looking to visit Chateau La Briance when travel restrictions were lifted. To think that will not happen is heartbreaking.

Jon has two wonderful sons, Jacob and Kai the same age as my two sons, Dan and Sam. Not a conversation would go by without us talking about our boys. Jon has left a great mark on us all within Speedway, but none more than the mark he has left on me personally.

I will miss you my friend, thank you for everything.

Until we meet again

Matt"
