Having completed their northern fixtures of the regular Cab Direct Championship season, the Pirates prepare for a spate of local derbies as they seek to maintain top spot in the league table, starting with a home clash against Oxford - the only visiting club to have left Wimborne Road this season with a victory to their name.
When the 'Cheetahs' visited back in early May in the BSN Series, -a competition that the two sides will meet in again in the knockout stage - they built a ten point lead within five heats and then held firm in the closing stages as Poole took the affair into a last heat decider.
Reflecting on that meeting, Poole promoter Dan Ford said "I think we learnt a lot from that meeting. Disappointing as the result was, we came out the other side overall looking a much more resilient side, as our current league position shows."
"I really enjoy these local rivalry meetings, not so much when we lose, as the team well knows, and I am certain that our boys will be out to right that early season blip. Hopefully, we can attract a good holiday crowd on Wednesday that will create the special atmosphere that spurs the Pirates on at Wimborne Road."
Whilst Poole are expected to have an unchanged septet, the Cheetahs will be missing both Jonas Knudsen and Jordan Jenkins, the latter sidelined through injury. with Knudsen's absence due to a Danish league booking. Scunthorpe's Zaine Kennedy will guest for Jenkins, whilst Darryl Ritchings, who impressed when he was brought in by Poole for a spell of six meetings, ahead of Will Cairns turning sixteen., will now stand in for Knudsen.
Oxford had been due to have Francis Gusts missing but his Danish league fixture has been postponed which has made him available for selection.
