REACTION: MIDDLO PRAISES GOOD GUY HARRIS ON NIGHT OF GLASGOW GLORY

11/10/23

The silverware that has resided in the full Poole trophy cabinet is on it's way to Scotland in this, the 'year of the Tiger'.

Following Sheffield Tigers Sports Insure Premiership triumph, the streak of Tigers from Glasgow secured the SGB Cab Direct Championship, successfully defending their first leg fourteen point advantage to eventually claim a 95-85 aggregate win and deny Poole their straight hattrick of league titles since dropping into the second tier of British Speedway.

Neil Middleditch had hoped that after the 38-52 on Monday, his Pirates would come out fighting from the off, but the man that has made so many play-off headlines, Chris 'Bomber' Harris teamed up with Tom Brennan to push the Pirates further behind in the very first heat. Throughout both legs of this Grand Final, Harris dropped just one point, and that was in heat fifteen, two heats after he had secured the race victory that put any Pirates' fightback beyond the mathematics.
Ultimately Poole won 47-43 on the night, to maintain their proud home record but they didn't have the answers to a resolute Glasgow team.

Middlo admitted "I really felt that we had it in our tanks to be able to do it. Fourteen points was a big mountain but I thought we could do it. To have done so, we had needed to hit them hard early on and we didn't do that and that was the problem. They came at us straight away and we didn’t really have an answer for it, especially for Bomber! He is amazing. I just said a moment ago if you looked up speedway in the dictionary there would be a picture of Bomber because he is amazing. Hats off to him . He's not only a handful but he is also one of the nicest blokes in speedway. So, well done to Glasgow, they have been waiting a long, long time for this and congratulations to Cami [Brown, team manager] and the Glasgow team and supporters. They were the best team over the two legs, no complaints from me, we were outridden tonight when it mattered. I will say though, that we never gave up, not until it was mathematically over. I was looking at the score and it was getting harder and harder as the heats went by as Glasgow were snatching three-alls, which was what they needed and I would have been saying that to my boys if we were in that position. But like I said, we never gave up and it was nice to win the meeting in the end in front of our home crowd. Obviously I'm disappointed, it proved unlucky thirteen for me as that was my thirteenth final. I've got ten league titles and of course it would have been nice to get the eleventh but there are no complaints from me, Glasgow deserved this one."
