High excitement, total effort and moments of controversy are all but guaranteed on Wednesday night when knockout speedway comes to Wimborne Road.
Poole Pirates face a long trek North in the knockout stages of the BSN Series competition and will have to beat Redcar in the semi-finals, if they are to keep their hopes alive of a keeping up their record in reaching the finals of all major competitions since they rejoined the second tier level of British speedway in 2021.
Following the official draw, broadcast on the British Speedway Facebook page earlier this evening, and undertaken by BSN presenter Ian Brannan with Poole's Kyle Newman, Redcar's Charles Wright, Scunthorpe's Simon Lambert and Glasgow's Tom Brennan, all looking on, the Pirates were pitched against Teesside team Redcar after Glasgow and Scunthorpe were the first two teams out of the bag.
The Pirates will stage their home leg on Wednesday 17th May, with the second leg two days later on Friday 19th.
Speaking of the draw, Poole promoter Dan Ford said, "we knew we were in for a long haul once we had qualified because the other group winners, Glasgow and Scunthorpe are not exactly just down the road, neither were the possible highest placed runners-up, which was a going to come from either the Northern or Scottish groups, after we had dominated our section. We have already set aside the 17th for our home leg and Redcar have confirmed they will stage the concluding leg on the 19th ."
Newman's reaction to the draw was "It's not a bad one for us, Richard (Lawson) has been guesting there a lot this year and I enjoyed my time up there last season too. We also have Adam (Roynon) who rode for them last season so we have plenty of experience to take with us when we go up. We are in good form right now but our game plan is always to just take one race, one meeting at a time."
On Saturday night Redcar won their final group fixture, against Birmingham to edge out Berwick for that coveted fourth place in the semi-finals.
