REACTION: DELIGHTED DANYON DOES THE DAMAGE

27/07/21

Rising Star Danyon Hume lived up to his title with a superb double figure performance at Kent on Tuesday night to mastermind the Pirates first maximum point away win of the season. He followed up his strong Leicester performance at the weekend with a match winning paid thirteen points from six rides, dropping just a single point in his final four outings, three of which spanned just four heats.

He admitted afterwards "I am really buzzing about the way things went tonight, it was just great to be able to go out there and put a double figure score together. I was a bit annoyed with myself after my first ride because I was leading that when James (Wright) fell and I was hoping that the red lights wouldn't come on. But when I saw them I just knew I had it all to do in  the re-run and I just didn't get off the gate. But it came alright in the end. It was nice to be given some extra rides by Middlo and he was so encouraging. At one point I asked him how the meeting was going, I think there was about four points in at the time. He just told me to stay calm and go out there and make some starts. Thankfully I did so and I am just one really happy guy tonight.!

Poole's eventual 52-38 victory, on their maiden visit to Central Park as a club, gave some symmetry to their away record this season. It was their fifth away league match and their statistics read as a win in each of the categories ranging from four points to zero.

Despite the fourteen point winning margin, former Pirates Scott Nicholls and Paul Starke both made life difficult for the Poole side, whilst Ben Morley proved to be a stubborn opponent on more than one occasion. But it was Hume who stole the limelight even though both Rory Schlein and Danny King used all their wealth of experience to produce some telling passes.

The Pirates now return to Wimborne Road on Wednesday night for a re-match with the Leicester Lions, a meeting that Hume claims is "one I am really looking forward to and hopefully I can carry tonight's performance into  it,  and we can keep our good streak of results going."
