It was on July 31st 2013 when Darcy Ward recorded his 21st maximum for Poole.
The Pirates were entertaining the Coventry Bees at Wimborne Road and Ward was wearing the number one race jacket in a side that included Thomas H Jonasson at two, Rider Replacement for the injured Chris Holder (3), Josh Grajczonek (4), Maciej Janowski (5), Rohan Tungate (6) and at number seven Micky Dyer.
The Bees fielded Krzystof Kasprzak, Michal Szczepaniak, Grzegorz Zengota, Stuart Robson, Scott Nicholls, Aaron Summers and Adam Roynon
Ward took the honours in the opening heat, supported by Jonasson as Poole began with a 5-1 over the Polish duo Kasprzak and Sczepaniak. The awesome Aussie was out again in heat 5 where his win contributed the only points for the Pirates as that same Polish pair held out Grajczonek. It was two on the trot for Ward and again with Jonasson they recorded maximum points to give Poole a ten point lead.
It was a similar margin when Ward came out for his fourth outing (heat ten), again with Jonasson, Ward unselfishly slowing up cross the line in near synchronisation with the Swede, who was given the verdict by referee Chris Durno as Poole eased into a 14 point lead over the visitors.
Ward completed his night's work with a second paid win, thus registering his fifteenth paid maximum as a Pirate and clocking up that 21st.
Darcy was to go on and record a further five more unbeaten performances in his Pirate career, all bar one of which was a paid version, his last full maximum being achieved against Coventry the following season at Brandon!
