MEMORIES OF ADAM MAXING OUT AS A PIRATE

5/03/20

In his ninth appearance in Poole colours Adam Ellis went through the card unbeaten as the Pirates claimed a 60-29 victory over Coventry on 20th April 2016.

Operating out of the number six berth each of Adam's four riders resulted in Pirate 5-1's and such was the dominance of the Wimborne Road side that night, team manager Neil Middleditch had no need to offer the unbeatable Ellis any additional outings.

Adam and fellow reserve Kyle Newman put Poole ahead in heat two with a 5-1 when they beat James Sarjeant and Josh Bates, overturning the Bees' opening advantage from Krzysztof Kasprzak and Jason Garrity who had consigned Chris Holder to second place and Brady Kurtz to last.

By the time Adam took to the track again (heat 5) the Pirates found themselves trailing again, this time four points behind but a perfect win, backed up by Kurtz (at the expense of Garrity and Sarjeant) kick-started a six heat volley of maximums for the Pirates , Kurtz and Ellis repeating their exploits in heat nine, this time Sarjeant and Bates being the victims again.

The four meeting reserves met again in heat 12 under the race format of that season and just as in heat two the Pirates were far too strong for their visitors, Ellis claiming his paid maximum with his third outright win of the night, to push Poole into a 27 points lead.  Future Pirate Chris Harris played his part for Coventry to prevent a total demise of the Bees, although whilst 2020 Pirate Ellis will look back fondly at this meeting, his captain for this year, Danny King will have it on his list as one to forget, for he managed just two from four for the Midland's outfit.
