ROCKETMAN LAUNCHES TEAM PLANS FOR 2026
The architect of the past eight trophies for the Pirates, Richard Lawson, will be back for a fifth term in 2026.
Richie Worrall won the Harrisons Scottish Open at Edinburgh on Friday night beating defending champion Rory Schlein in the grand final.
Worrall, who used to ride for the Edinburgh Monarchs, topped the scoring in the qualifying heats with a 14-point haul and then shone in the final holding out Schlein, Kevin Doolan and Cameron Heeps to land the title.
A jubilant Worrall, who was only beaten by Ricky Wells on the night said afterwards "When I was driving here today I was thinking I want to put my name on that trophy. There's some real big names on there. And I want to keep on putting my name on the trophy as long as this meeting is on". He also admitted that he almost made a costly error in the final, adding "I was riding defensively and when you do that you slow down. I looked on the last corner to see where he was and when I changed my body position it made the bike grip and lift, which made it a real close finish! A bit too close for my liking."
It was no mean feat for Worrall to relieve Schlein of the title, as the Wolverhampton and Somerset Aussie is a four-time winner of this tournament. The two will meet again on Monday at Wimborne Road when the No.1 Carpet Cleaning Pirates host the visit of Wolves (7.30pm)
