REACTION: PIRATES SUCCUMB TO STRONG OXFORD START

VOLVO CARS Poole Pirates face last year’s Premiership runners-up Wolverhampton on Monday, just five days after reigning league champs Swindon won at Wimborne Road.
Pirates boss Neil Middleditch insists his new-look 2018 Dorset side have to be more alert from the start after they were outgated throughout Wednesday’s defeat against the racy Robins.
He said: “It was clear we were conceding too much at the starts on Wednesday.
“Wolverhampton is a tough track to race on at the best of times. We will really need to be on our A-game.
“The one thing I know is we are a far better side than we showed on Wednesday. But you should never judge a season on one performance.
“Some days in speedway it just all clicks into place and other times no matter how hard to try nothing goes right.
“I believe we can come back stronger after the Swindon defeat.”
The Wolves claimed the biggest result of the season so far when they took Rye House to task at the beginning of this week.
The Midlanders 60-30 triumph was masterminded by maximum men Jacob Thorssell (full 15points) and Kyle Howarth (paid 11+4) while Rory Schlein and Sam Masters only dropped a point each as they both took four rides.
Both sides are expected to be at full-strength for Monday’s Premiership meeting which for Poole signals the start of a busy week as they travel to King’s Lynn 48 hours later before the club’s 70th Birthday celebrations takes place at Wimborne Road on Thursday (April 26).
