SHANES THROUGH DESPITE OPENER SCARE

8/04/18

James Shanes overcame a first ride disqualification at Eastbourne to confirm his place in the British U21 Final.

Recovering from a heat three fall whilst in second place, with persistent rain falling throughout the meeting, Shanes went on to muster eleven points including a win over eventual winner Zach Wajtknecht in his fourth ride.

It was the only defeat that Wajtknecht suffered as he matched Max Clegg's 14 points. Wajtknecht was declared winner on the night by virtue of countback as he had beaten Clegg when they met.
Third place went to Connor Mountain who scored 12 points, so the top three and Shanes will be joined by Josh Bailey (10), Drew Kemp (9) and Jason Edwards (9) in the Final at a venue to be confirmed, following  a decision not to stage the event at Birmingham.
Sunday's second semi final scheduled to be held at Newcastle has been postponed due to the weather.
