BIG RON MEETS THE DIRTY BEAR!

3/08/17

A former Poole rider was amongs the number of fans disappointed that the weather put paid to the hopes of speedway racing at Wimborne Road, but Ron Preston was treated to a night of hospitality from Poole boss Matt Ford.

The Californian who rode for the Pirates between 1979 and 1981 was the special guest of Ford, who explains, "Ron( a non drinker all his life ) joined Neil and myself along  with a few sponsors at my private bar " The Dirty Bear " for a chat and cola on Wednesday night after the meeting was postponed.

" I have to admit that it was a great privilege to meet the legend that is Ronnie,  in person. I remember the huge influence he had on the club and how classy he was when he joined us in 1979, spending 3 seasons with The Pirates. He was bitterly disappointed not to get his wish to see the lads ride but  he did manage to get a view of the track today and I know it brought back a lot of emotions for him. "
