EASTER PREVIEW
The Poole 'Wessex Marine' Pirates face a tough opening fixture on Good Friday (6pm) when they welcome Devonshire cousins Plymouth Gladiator...
It may not have been the best of nights for current Poole number one Chris Holder in Cardiff on Saturday, but it was a memorable one for other Poole connections.
Antonio Lindback proved to be the classy winner of the meeting whilst co-Promoter Gordon Pairman was the brains behind an innovative idea that had former Pirate Greg Hancock, the championship leader, cladded out in Glasgow Tiger kevlars!
When, during a conversation with Hancock last week, Pairman learned that the 2013 Pirate had been let down with his original planned new suit the Isle of Man resident quickly came to the rescue. "It all came about rather quickly" admitted Pairman "once I found out that Greg may have had to shelve his plans of wearing a different colour scheme race-suit for each GP.
"I simply couldn't allow that to happen and so I made a call to my good friends at Glasgow and we were soon able to reach an agreement with Greg to wear a Glasgow Tigers themed race-suit.
"It was all too easy really with Greg, who is a great guy to work alongside and a true ambassador for the sport, and we soon had all the artwork in place and able to get the kevlars made up.
"We wanted to keep it under wraps for as long as possible and Greg was on-board with us on that. Judging by the feedback this has received I think that was absolutely the right call. It came as a big surprise to many and it was good to see Greg out racing for a full seven rides again in a GP and even better to see him wearing the Tigers' colours and logos."
Hancock continues to lead the 2016 Championship race with 66 points, holding a lead of 3 points over defending world champion Tai Woffinden as the series goes into its break with six further rounds to follow.
