THE All Party Parliamentary Group for Speedway once again teamed up with the British Speedway Promoters Association for their second end-of-season reception – which, like last year's event, was held in the Terrace Pavilion of the Palace of Westminster.
Around 150 guests from all areas of speedway interest enjoyed the event, and the general opinion of all in attendance was that this year’s event, which took place on Wednesday November 5, surpassed the success of the inaugural 2013 reception.
This year, there were also the inaugural APPG Awards which saw the three leagues of the sport recognised with presentations to our own Matt Ford together with John Campbell of Premier League powerhouse Edinburgh and the National League award was given to co-ordinator Peter Morrish.
This year also saw the event sponsored by Travis Perkins whose senior executive, Ian Church presented the Travis Perkins Achievement Award to the 2013 World Champion,Tai Woffinden, in recognition of his 2014 campaign which saw a brave attempt to retain his title despite serious injury problems, while also mounting his excellent fund raising work on behalf of Great Ormond Street Hospital.
The officials of the APPG were joined by so many of their Parliamentary colleagues from both sides of the house who mingled with officials, riders, sponsors, journalists and invited guests from across the speedway spectrum leaving everyone looking forward to the 2015 event.
