RESULT: FIM SWEDISH GP - MALILLA

GREAT BRITAIN's Tai Woffinden followed up his Prague victory with a triumph in Malilla to take a single point advantage in the world championship series.

Defending champion Woffinden edged out his closest rival Greg Hancock in the final with Poole's stand-in Chris Holder finishing in third place ahead of world number 2 Jaroslaw Hampel.

It was a night when a couple of errors from Darcy Ward cost him dearly in a keenly contested meeting and the Poole skipper failed to reach the semi-finals, scoring just 6 points for a series total of 51.  After a strong showing of gating in the previous round Ward missed the start in heat 3 and was left playing catch up in his opening ride.

In his second outing he looked destined for victory but lifted on the final lap allowing Nicki Pedersen to to just edge the verdict on the run to the line, in the narrowest of finishes. Ward was involved in a tense heat 11 ride both he and Holder going either side of Woffinden at the first turn but the Brit recovered to push Ward back to third place and in a precarious position on the leaderboard.

Another raising of the front wheel, in his fourth ride, again cost Ward position as he gifted Matej Zagar the win in heat 16. Nothing less than a race win was going to be enough for Ward in his final ride but he couldn't find the same kind of drive that Dane Iversen found to get by Bjerre at the first turn and his night came to a close ahead of those vital semi-finals.

Overall Ward in 6th in the world standings just two points behind Zagar and 12 off the lead.
