RESULT: POOLE v COVENTRY 20 JULY

20/07/16

The ReadyPower were quick to take the sting out of the Bees in this Elite league fixture  and even a rare 8-0 in favour of the visitors couldn’t keep them in touch with the rampant Pirates.

As Poole produced a solid all-round performance which moved them into a play-off position,  reserve Bjarne Pedersen admitted "That was a good result and I am glad I am settling back into the groove again. It felt before I was still learning the track here despite my previous experience but things seem to be in place now and I was happy with tonight"

Pedersen's Pirates fired in consecutive maximum heat scores between heats three to five, he and Adam Ellis completing the hat-trick before the Bees opted to throw the dice and put Chris Harris, who had been disqualified in his first ride for felling Poole skipper Hans Andersen,  on a tactical ride in heat 6.

Australian champion Brady Kurtz fell at the first turn and gained a disqualification and in the re-run Krzysztof Buczkowski, who otherwise had an excellent evening, went down on the final lap and before he could get back to his feet and on-board his machine the race stop lights came on and he too was disqualified despite desperately trying to complete the distance.

But the Pirates increased their lead by a further 10 points over the course of the next three heats with Kurtz and returnee Kyle Newman combining for 5-1 in heat 8 and Adam Ellis and Pedersen doing likewise in the ninth.

Ellis' best ride was still to come though when, immediately after the break he dug deep and fended off the earnest challenges from British pairing King and Harris, supporting Holder's third unbeaten ride of the night.

With a lead of 20 points it was game over but Poole didn't relent as Pedersen and Newman secured a 4-2 in heat 12 with Adam Roynon opening his account by splitting the Dorset side's reserves.

Kasprzak, who had been well out-trapped by Chris Holder in the opening heat of the night, produced a clever rider to pass the Poole number one in heat 13 but with Harris lingering at the back it made no impact on the score differential. But when Buczkowski and Kurtz put another 4-2 on the board the Pirates led by 24 points going into the final heat.

The masterminds of that 8-0, Kasprzak and Harris,  conspired again to overcome Bjarne Pedersen who had made a far better gate than his heat 15 partner, Holder, the Dane then dropping to the back unable to add to third straight double figure return for the Pirates.
