RESULT: POOLE v SWINDON - JUNE 1ST

1/06/16

Poole track staff had universal praise lauded on them after producing a racing strip that had strong critic Chris Holder admitting "was a pleasure to ride."

Holder who had slated the circuit 10 days ago revelled in the conditions scoring paid 13, dropping his only points to Jason Doyle whom he had comprehensively beaten in the opening heat as the Pirates got off to the best possible start.

A hat-trick of maximum heat scores helped cement some firm foundations on which to build their second win of the week over the Swindon Robins, who to their credit came back well, huffing and puffing, but never quite able to blow the Pirates house down.

Trailing 18-6 after four heats Swindon clocked up two 5-1s of their own to put the frighteners on the Pirates but Hans Andersen and Chris Holder corrected matters in a re-run heat 7 to restore an eight point advantage for the home side.

They preciously protected that lead, not least Krzysztof Buczkowski who showed great skill and determination to battle away in heat 10 for a single point, eventually getting his just rewards by squeezing by former Pirate Josh Grajczonek.

Guest Steve Worall was not far off registering his second 5-1 with Chris Holder in heat 11 but another ex-Pirate, Rohan Tungate stood up to the challenge to split the Poole pair.

Brady Kurtz had to use all the angles to overcome the fast trapping Stefan Nielsen before Doyle gained his third straight win of the meeting to keep the Robins in with a chance of a consolation point.

The brilliant Buczkowski made an excellent move down the back straight of heat 14 and with Bjarne Pedersen clinging on for third place the pressure mounted on the visitors if they were to go home with some reward.

But whilst Doyle dominated yet again, Holder and Andersen were just too good for Grajczonek and the Pirates moved to within just one point of the Robins in the league table, with a match in hand but remain 7 points behind leaders Lakeside who had a home victory against second-placed Wolverhampton.

Skipper Andersen added his vocal backing to the track improvements and promised "there is more to come from me I feel. I was on a new engine tonight which I am preparing for this track and whilst I am not quite there I know that I can deliver more." His compatriot Bjarne Pedersen felt that he too was "dialling in to the Poole track now. It is different to how it was against Belle Vue but it was good".

The Pirates now take a break from team racing until June 29th when they host King's Lynn.
