COOK BOYS FIND POINTS HARD TO COME BY IN AUSSIE CHAMPIONSHIP OPENER

4/01/24

.Both the Cook brothers have work to do over the remaining four rounds of the Australian Championship after failing to muster too many points in the opening round at North Brisbane on Thursday (4th Jan).

.

2024 Poole captain, Ben, finished strong after scoring just one point in his first three outings, eventually taking his final tally on to six points through a second place in heat thirteen and a win in heat seventeen, whilst Zach had three last places interspersed with a second behind Jack Holder in heat twelve and closing his night out with a second place finished behind Brady Kurtz in the last of the heats, for a total of just four points.

The Grand Final was won by Max Fricke, a three-times Australian Champion, who had scored eleven points in the heats and led home Rohan Tungate and Jaimon Lidsey, both of whom had out-scored Fricke in the heats with thirteen a piece and so it is Tungate who takes a slender leader into round two.

Standings (After round one):  Rohan Tungate 16, Max Fricke & Jaimon Lidsey 15, Josh Pickering 12, Chris Holder & Jack Holder 10, Brady Kurtz  & Ryan Douglas 8, James Pearson & Sam Masters 7, Ben Cook 6, Keynan Rew  & Tate Zischke 5, Zach Cook 4, Fraser Bowes & Michael West 1

Remaining Rounds: Sunday 7th January Kurri Kurri; Tuesday 9th January Albury-Wodonga; Thursday 11th January Mildura; Saturday 13th January Gillman
