RESULT: POOLE 60 WOLVERHAMPTON 33

21/07/15

After snatching a defeat from the jaws of victory on Monday night, the Poole Ready Power Pirates put in a performance with a point to prove on Wednesday when for the second successive home meeting they broke the 60 point barrier, with a comprehensive team performance.

Struggling Wolves were reduced to just two race winners all evening and were out-performed in all departments as the Pirates boasted two unbeaten riders in skipper Maciej Janowski and a resurgent Dakota North, on their way to a 60-33 result which matched their score against Lakeside a fortnight ago.

Backing those two up were a three wins from five ride contribution by Dave Watt, including setting the fastest time around Wimborne Road this season, and an unbeaten last three rides by Chris Holder after he had struggled in the opening heat, turning his night around with some excellent rides and showing the true Chris Holder, speedway rider par-excellence.

Reserve Paul Starke delivered arguably the race of the night as he battled through from third to first in heat 12 after his partner Kyle Newman had packed up at the start, ending a very troublesome night for the local lad, although he still finished with paid 7 to his name.

Wolves just had no answers to the determined Pirates and Poole boss Matt Ford was far more contented than he had been 48 hours earlier. "That was more like the Pirates we know. The lads knew they had to put in some big performances tonight and they sure did that. It does however illustrate just what a big opportunity we missed with that defeat on Monday, for we could, and should, have been sharing top spot in the league tonight.  It means we can ill-afford any further slip-ups but the guys proved they were up to it by picking themselves up from that huge disappointment earlier in the week.

Poole were 10 points up after 5 rides, only Tobiasz Musielak able to break the sequence of Pirate race winners
when he led a hotly pursuing Kacper Gomolski home in heat 4.  The winning pole took a tumble next time out, which was heat 7 one which Janowski won by a huge margin with Holder in support.

Wolves tried to recover some of the deficit under the tactical rule with Thorssell and after James Sarjeant's impatience to get away caused two false starts and an ultimate disqualification, the Swede did the job asked of him as he beat Gomolski whilst Newman, clearly struggling for power had enough to hold out Robert Branford who replaced Sarjeant.

The Pirates soon recovered the three points they lost through Thorssell's six points and with interest, as Watt and Starke registered a 4-2 advantage and North and Janowski combined for a 5-1 despite a hard pressing ride from Thorssell.

Holder cruised to a heat 11 win after smoothly rounding Lindgren, as Watt's unbeaten sequence came to an abrupt end with a last place and then Starke delivered that excellent ride that had the Poole fans rising to their feet in admiration of a terrific effort.

Successive 5-1's followed over the next two heats, the heat 14 version being made that much easier when Musielak fell as an exciting race was unfolding and then Wells stormed the tapes in the re-run and had to go back on a 15 metre penalty.

North who had begun with a second place behind Janowski in heat 2 and then delivered victories in heats 6, 10 and that prolonged heat 14 completed his paid maximum with a splendid ride to pass Lindgren in heat 15 whilst Watt added a further point to his score to give himself a double figure return
